Christmas for the children in Uganda

Christmas appeal 2026: school books, clothes and presents for over 300 children at our school and children’s home by Lake Victoria.

Run entirely by volunteers · 100% of your donation goes to the children

In short: Get It Done, a charity from Austria, is once again organising Christmas in 2026 for the children at its day school and children’s home in Bwembe on Lake Victoria, Uganda. With the donations we buy school books, clothes and presents for over 300 children. The charity is run entirely by volunteers – your donation goes straight to Uganda.

What will the children get for Christmas 2026?

🎄 Christmas appeal 2026

For the 2026 Christmas appeal, Get It Done is buying three things for the children in Bwembe: school books, clothes and presents. School books, because in Uganda one book is often shared by several children and the new school year starts in February. Clothes, because with over 300 children they are always in short supply. And presents, because Christmas should simply be a joy, too.

There is no fixed package with a set price. All Christmas donations go into one pot, and everything is bought for all the children from it. How much each child receives depends on how much comes in. Every euro counts – including the small ones.

What was Christmas 2024 like in Bwembe?

Christmas 2024 was a huge celebration: 270 children from the school in Bwembe and around 500 people from the surrounding villages joined in. There was food for everyone, the children performed dances and many moved up a class in a proper graduation ceremony. Even Ugandan television came and filmed a longer report. You can see the photos and the video in the post Big Christmas celebration.

“Despite €2,131, there is only about €8 left for each child, but it is still a lovely little success.”

What was in the Christmas presents in 2024?

A total of €2,131 was raised for the presents in 2024. That sounds like a lot, but with 270 children it comes to about €8 per child. We only bought useful things that the children really lack in everyday life:

  • Blankets70 of them
  • Mosquito netsprotection against malaria
  • Toothbrushes & toothpaste
  • Clothesthe biggest item
  • Biscuitsbecause Christmas should be sweet, too

The full list with all amounts is in the post Christmas presents for the kids.

How much does a Christmas present for a child in Uganda cost?

Get It Done has no fixed price per child, because we do not pack individual parcels. As a guide: in 2024 it came to about €8 per child, made up of blankets, mosquito nets, hygiene items, clothes and biscuits. In 2026 school books are added. So you can give any amount – it is used together with all the other Christmas donations for all of the more than 300 children.

Christmas and care – what has already happened

How do children in Uganda celebrate Christmas?

Uganda is a largely Christian country: around 84% of the population are Christians. Christmas is therefore a big celebration with church services, music and a shared meal. For the children, Christmas falls in the long school holidays in December and January – the Ugandan school year ends in late November. In Bwembe, meat is on the table only once or twice a year – which makes the festive meal all the more special.

How does my Christmas donation reach the children?

You donate to Get It Done’s association account in Austria or via PayPal. Everything is bought locally in Uganda and handed out directly to the children in Bwembe. Afterwards we show on this website, with photos, what was bought and distributed – just as we did in 2024 with the full list. The charity is run entirely by volunteers, so there are no admin costs taken from your donation.
