Irrigation – Stage Two

WE DID IT. THE FIRST STAGE OF THE IRRIGATION SYSTEM IS FINISHED!

Our land lies right on Lake Victoria (including access to the lake), so we are able – and allowed – to use the water directly. This means we can grow crops during both dry seasons as well and double our yield. It brings us a good deal closer to our goal of becoming financially self-sufficient.

For this we bought a powerful dirty-water pump and laid 300 m of fire hoses from it.

We have now completed the first stage (€2,500). It includes the pump, 300 m of hose and one sprinkler.

The estimated cost of the complete irrigation system with several sprinklers is €4,000–5,000. We hope to raise the money in the future.

Please help us all to reach this big milestone.

News February 2025: As the money is not easy to raise, in the meantime we have bought 40 watering cans and 2 water barrels (€200), so the larger plants (bananas, citrus trees) can be watered by hand. It’s a start.

We are putting a plan into practice where the children are split into groups. Each group is given a set time and a particular area (e.g. bananas, trees, cassava etc.) to water every day.

This way the whole growing area gets watered once every 2–3 days.
