It was a good opportunity, and we took it: we have bought a small plot of land right on Lake Victoria for around €500.
What makes it special: the plot gives us sand. And we need sand all the time, for mixing cement and for building.
Why it pays off
A hut costs us around €1,000. With our own sand we save about €150 in material costs on each one.
We want to build six huts with two rooms each for the Bible school students. That alone covers the cost of the plot:
- 6 huts × around €150 = around €900 saved
- Plot: around €500
And after that, the sand saves us money on every new building.
And the sand is already helping: we are using it for the first hut for the Bible school students.
